Long Shot Seeks Short Closure at Square

HARRISONBURG - State Del. Bob "Robert" Marshall this week asked the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors to close a 25-foot section of sidewalk beside Court Square when his long-shot campaign for U.S. Senate comes to Harrisonburg next month.

The campaign needs the space to roll up banners after Marshall's planned rally.

"Obviously we could do it on the lawn," said a campaign spokesman. "But we're trying to avoid grass stains."

The banners contain several pictures of working-class, xenophobic, white people. Viewed through the two-dimensional lens of a TV or still camera, the banners can look like a large crowd.

"We appreciate Sen. Obama defining our base for us, since we didn't have much money for market research ourselves," said the spokesman. "But we still don't have the field operation to draw the actual crowd."

Why not just close the walkway next to Finnigans ? That seemed to work in the past...
