Local Band Laments Exclusion from MACRoCk
HARRISONBURG - Members of the local group Witty Band Name are ticked off. "What's the deal?" said band member Tom Lessfee. "Is MACRoCk too good for us?"
The band submitted an application as soon as they could, and note that organizers didn't get back to them for months. "We thought it might be a good sign, like they were trying to figure out how to get us in. Guess not," Lessfee says. The band received a rejection call last week.
Band members plan to march in front of MACRoCk events with signs reading "Let us play" and "We don't suck".
"College radio is too commercial," says Lessfee's bandmate Steve Flowman. "It's all driven by popularity and what draws in listeners, or in this case attendees. So what if these bands are 'on labels' and 'have followings'? Does that mean WXJM should crap on the little guy?"
Special thanks to TM for the idea for this story. Also, listen to a MACRoCk-inspired tune composed by Kai Degner here.

The band that did play at the VFW yesterday afternoon should have had some signs that said "We DO Suck" as the instruments were way too loud and the "Singer" could not get the group of maybe 100 people to even bounce their heads...what a shame.
